At a Parliament sitting on 23 October chaired by Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, MPs debated at length the articles of a bill (draft law) on ownership of lands that have been illegally used or taken in the municipalities of the Kurdistan Region. The purpose of the bill is to allow people who have illegally used and/or built on land in municipalities to buy it from the government and officially register it in their names, within a deadline. Six other bills had their first readings.

In recent meetings, the relations committee discussed with Minister Reber Ahmad the smuggling of travelers through airports and visa-free travel. The religious affairs committee supported a proposal from the Kurdistan Union of Islamic Scholars to renovate religious schools. The culture committee will scrutinize spending of five million dollars allocated to Erbil governorate in 2014. The martyrs committee urged the Finance Ministry to pay tuition fees for children of families of martyrs and political prisoners.
Parliament’s Presidency and Legislative Committee meet with Kurdistan Region Consultative Council
Parliament's Presidency, the Legislative Committee and the Shura Council agreed on the need for cooperation. Parliament’s Presidency asked the Shura Council to coordinate with the Kurdistan Parliament in general and the Legal Affairs Committee, in particular to address the challenges related to amending legislation.
Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Lamedina NGO discuss minority rights, Yazidi genocide
The Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Hemin Hawrami on 21 October welcomed Ms. Antonella Caruso from the Los Angeles Institute for International Dialogue (LAMEDINA), a newly established NGO in the US. They discussed the rights and protection of Kurdistan's religious and ethnic communities, and recognition of the Yazidi genocide.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami and Korea’s Consul General discuss recent visit to Korea National Assembly and events in Rojava
Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 21 October met with Korea’s Consul General in Kurdistan Region, Mr. Choi Kwang-jin. They discussed a Kurdistan Parliament delegation’s recent visit to the Korean National Assembly in Seoul, the military operations in Rojava, Western Kurdistan, and the grave concern for the civilians and refugees.

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 21 October met with the Kurdish Academy to congratulate their newly elected presidency board in Erbil. Speaker Faiq expressed her support for the Kurdish Academy’s new board, saying that the organization is an important centre for research on the Kurdish language and Parliament will do all it can to support it.
