Parliament's Presidency hold press conference on meetings with political parties

At a press conference on 9th September, the Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewas Faiq said that we need a Kurdistan Constitution and that political parties should set aside their differences in drafting it and prioritise the national interest. Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami said that in the current four-year term Parliament will work to strengthen the public's confidence in politics. 

Parliament’s Presidency visits PUK Deputy Secretary General Kosrat Rasul

Kurdistan Parliament's Presidency on 9th September visited Mr. Kosrat Rasul Ali, the Deputy Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci. They discussed building consensus on issues in the national interest, such as a Kurdistan Constitution, supporting the KRG's agenda, carrying out reforms and supporting the KRG’s negotiations with the Iraqi government.

Summary of Committees’ recent meetings – 10 September 2019

Parliament's committees in recent meetings have asked the President of Kurdistan Region to bring a case to the Federal Court against the Iraq Financial Management bill which violates Kurdistan Region's constitutional rights. They also met Interior Ministry employees who ask for their salaries to be the same as their Iraqi counterparts; met the Kurdistan Olympic Committee who asked for legislation; and decided to prepare a report about the Haj pilgrimage administrative process.

Kurdistan Parliament delegation meets with Kurdistan Islamic Union Secretary General Salahaddin Bahaaddin

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation to Slemani, headed by Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci, on 9 September met with the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) party. Mr. Salahaddin Bahaaddin, General Secretary of the Kurdistan Islamic Union welcomed the delegation.

Kurdistan Parliament delegation meet with Change Movement leaders

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation headed by Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 9 September met with Change Movement (Gorran) senior members in Slemani to discuss having a unified approach on issues in the national interest.

Committee on Kurdistani Areas and specialist lawyer discuss challenging Iraq’s provincial councils law

The Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area met with Mr. Sardar Sabah Harki, a lawyer and expert in constitutional issues. The committee members on 4 September discussed with Mr. Harki how to challenge the Iraqi Provincial Election law at the Iraqi Federal Court.

Parliament’s Energy Committee heads meet US Consulate officials

The chair, vice chair and rapporteur of Kurdistan Parliament’s Energy, Natural Resources, Commerce and Industry Committee on 4 September welcomed officials from the US Consulate in Erbil: Mr. Andrew Lentz, the Head of Political Affairs; and Dr. Marisa Smip, the Head of Economic Affairs.

Committee on Social Affairs, Protection of Women’s Rights and Human Rights visit Slemani

The committee members in Slemani visited departments that oversee social care and combating violence against women. They met with people with disabilities, an autism centre and with prisoners to learn more about their needs and problems and how to improve social services.  

In Baghdad Kurdistan Parliament delegation met with Iraq’s Finance Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein and KRG Representative Faris Isa

A Kurdistan Parliament cross-party delegation headed by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami last week separately met with Iraq’s Finance Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein and the KRG Representative in Baghdad Mr. Faris Isa. They discussed the importance of the Kurdistan Parliament having a unified position towards relations with Baghdad.  

Kurdistan Parliament delegation meet Speaker Mohammad Halbousi and first Deputy Speaker Hassan Kaabi of Iraqi Council of Representatives

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation led by Deputy Speaker Mr. Hemin Hawrami on 4 September had two separate meetings with the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mr. Mohammad Halbousi, and with the First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hassan Kaabi. Mr. Hawrami raised several recent Iraqi laws that negatively affect the people of Kurdistan and said they should be amended.
