Deputy Speaker Hawrami briefed Ambassador Calonge on Parliament’s recently passed legislation and latest bills, and on MPs’ scrutiny of the Government’s policies. He explained the seats in Parliament reserved for Christian, Armenian and Turkmen parties, to legally ensure their political participation and representation.

Parliament receives applications for position of Head of Independent Human Rights Commission

The Kurdistan Parliament announces that 31 people have applied for the position of Head of the Kurdistan Independent Human Rights Commission. The closing date for applications was Tuesday 15 September at 2pm.

Parliament sits to debate prison conditions, question government minister

The Kurdistan Parliament on 16 September sat to debate prison conditions and inmates' rights and welfare. MPs heard the Parliament committee’s report on inmates in Kurdistan Region, and heard from the KRG minister the measures being taken to improve prison conditions.

Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes US Ambassador Matthew Tueller

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on15 September welcomed the US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller. They discussed Erbil-Baghdad talks, the reform process, Kurdistan-US relations and coordination against ISIS.

The Kurdistan Parliament publishes a status update on the legislative proposals and draft resolutions that were proposed in 2019, which was the first year of Kurdistan Parliament’s current fifth term.
