The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament announces the order of business for the sitting of Thursday 30th January 2020 at 11 am – the 17th ordinary sitting of the autumn session of the first year of the Kurdistan Parliament’s fifth term:

Parliament's committees heard about the challenges facing the General Directorate on Combating Domestic Violence; and are looking into why government-built homes for people on low incomes have not been completed.

The Secretary of the Kurdistan Parliament Ms. Muna Kahveci on 28 January met with Peshmerga military commanders in Erbil. She described the peaceful religious and ethnic coexistence in Kurdistan as one of the nation’s positive values and achievements that must be protected. 

In recent meetings Parliament's committees discussed the Agricultural Insurance Bill and the process of selecting applicants to make the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 27 January welcomed two senior members of Germany’s ruling Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union parties: Mr. Markus Grübel, Federal Government Commissioner for Worldwide Religious Freedom; and Mr. Jürgen Hardt, CDU/CSU Foreign Policy Spokesman in the German Federal Parliament.

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 27 January met with the Russian Federation’s Consul General, Mr. Oleg Levin. They discussed building relations between the Kurdistan Parliament and the Duma, the Federal Assembly of Russia.

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 26 January welcomed Mr. Vincent-Guillaume Poupeau, the new Head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil. They discussed the recently passed Reform Law, plans for more reforms, and other political developments.

The Kurdistan Parliament held a sitting on 23 January to get an update from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s negotiating team on their talks with Iraqi Federal Government on the 2020 Iraq budget and oil. Dr. Galawesh Obeid Osman (KDP) discussed the need to establish a national counseling centre for children with developmental disorders and chronic conditions.

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 22 January chaired a meeting to evaluate and review the recent performance of Parliament’s 19 committees.

Representatives of diverse communities in the Nineveh Plains asked MPs for Peshmerga forces to return and militias to leave; the Parliament Affairs Committee and the Chief of Diwan of Parliament discussed Parliament's administration and support staff; the Peshmerga Committee received a petition to designate a National Peshmerga Day.
