Summary of committees’ recent meetings – 15th June 2019

Last week Kurdistan Parliament's committees met the family of a patient who died in the operating theatre, discussed bills on patients' rights and consumer rights, met the Federation of Civil Society Organisations to hear their complaints about taxation, and visited the Erbil Court of Investigation. 

MPs select Masrour Barzani as new Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government

11th June 2019 – Today Kurdistan Parliament’s MPs nominated and selected Mr. Masrour Masoud Mustafa Barzani to be the next Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Eighty-seven MP, out of the 97 who were present, voted to select Mr. Barzani as the new Prime Minister to form a cabinet and lead the country’s executive authority.

The nomination of the next Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq, as per amended Law No. 1 of 1992, Article 56, paragraph 3 (the Kurdistan Parliament Elections Law).

President Nechirvan Barzani takes oath of office at Kurdistan Parliament's Presidential inauguration ceremony

6th June 2019 – The Kurdistan Parliament today held the inauguration of the new President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Idris Mustafa Barzani. Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Fareed presided at the historic ceremony where President Barzani took his oath of office before MPs and hundreds of dignitaries and guests.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami visits Peshmerga on Makhmour and Mount Qarachugh frontlines

We deeply regret that these Kurdistani areas are not under our authority, areas where farmers and labourers have seen almost an entire year of their hard work completely destroyed. We condemn these acts wherever they have been perpetrated in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area.

Statement by Presidency of Kurdistan Parliament on Kirkuk explosions

31st May 2019 - The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament condemns the explosions in Kirkuk carried out on the night of 30th May, calls for all the ethnicities of Kirkuk to be included in the security of the city, and calls for coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi Army. 30th May 2019 - Kurdistan Parliament's committees in recent meetings discussed a bill on the Kurdish Diaspora; with UNAMI discussed increasing women's participation in decision-making and government; the children of Yazidi women born through abduction by ISIS terrorists; and helping farmers to sell their wheat harvests.
