Committees News

Committees will ask the Government about its latest education plans during this Coronavirus pandemic and will ask it to open schools this week; they will also ask the Office for NGOs to have better oversight of NGOs whose remit is to help martyrs’ families. 

Committees plan to hold meetings to discuss establishing a food and medicines authority; and to look into the practice of buying foreign nationality from small island countries. The government is expected to give Parliament a bill to recognize as genocide ISIS's crimes in Kurdistani areas

The Women's Rights committee will work on amending the law on combating violence against women. Committees are looking into allegations of a corrupt contract at the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism with two companies; assessed the KRG's report on implementation of the Reform Law, and discussed the current Coronavirus situation with the Health Minister.

Committees are preparing legislation on water resources and conservation and on charitable giving; they are also looking into Peshmerga reforms and support for martyred Peshmerga's families.

Committees are looking into youth unemployment and emigration, problems with roads in villages in Slemani governorate, housing units in Kalar, and the failure to open student dormitories on time.

Committees met with the Peshmerga's 70th brigade in Slemani and stressed the need to incorporate all Peshmerga forces into the Ministry; and discussed with NGOs how the Law on the Rights and Privileges of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs should be  amended.

Committees are asking for two cases of misused funds to be looked at by the general prosecutor and for the head of the Integrity Commission to be replaced; for Deloitte's oil production audit to be provided monthly to them; and for evidence on two private universities that have not received government authorization. MPs attended the US forces' handover of military equipment to the Peshmerga.  

Committees looked at peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians in Koya, visited homes for the elderly and children in Erbil, and decided to visit Duhok prisons and police.

9 November – The Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area, led by the chair Jiwan Rojbayani (KDP) met with the Minister of Interior, Rebar Ahmed; Khalid Shwani, Minister of the Region for Negotiations with the Iraqi Federal Government; Dana Abdulkarim, the Minister of Housing and Reconstruction; and the General Board for Kurdistani Areas Outside the Region.
