Committees' recent meetings - 19 October 2020

In recent meetings Parliament's committees discussed youth migration, returning to Kurdistan remains of Anfal genocide victims, and amendments to the disability rights law; they looked into public sector salaries with the Finance Minister, privatisation of electricity and Peshmerga reform preparations.

Parliament's committees are looking into the fires on Zozik mountain in Soran, thalassemia sufferers' needs, the review of Peshmerga soldiers under the Reform Law, and complaints from civil society organisations. They are also preparing the Bill on Protection of Local Products.

Parliament’s Presidency and committee express condolences on passing of Yazidi spiritual leader Baba Sheikh

Kurdistan Parliament’s Presidency and the Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee on 1 October expressed their condolences to Yazidis everywhere, on the passing of the Yazidis’ spiritual leader, Baba Sheikh Hajji Ismail.

Committees' recent meetings - 4 October 2020

Committees met with KRG ministers to work on the Bill on the Sale and Lease of Public Assets. Committees also discussed the next Iraqi elections, Parliament's administrative management, reforms in the Peshmerga Ministry, and a sand quarry built on the Sirwan River.  

Parliament’s Interior Committee demands those behind failed attack on Erbil be exposed

Kurdistan Parliament’s Interior, Security and Local Councils Committee in a statement condemned the rocket attack on Erbil of 30 September, and demanded that the attack be fully investigated:

In recent meetings committees worked on bills on missing children, prevention of international crimes against humanity, import and sale of oil products, and sale and lease of public assets. MPs will meet with the prosecutor's office to ask that conditional release for prisoners be implemented.

Parliament's committees met with the UK Consulate to discuss the disputed territories, met management of prisons and custody centres, looked into forest fires in Slemani, and lack of access to higher education for religious studies school graduates.
