Parliament’s message on 32nd commemoration of Halabja chemical bombing

On the 32nd commemoration of the chemical bombardment of Halabja on 16 March 2020 by Iraq’s former Ba’ath regime, Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, and the Martyrs Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee conveyed messages of remembrance to honour the victims and called for reparations to the survivors and to the city.

Committee on Protection of Women's Rights conveys message of its priorities on International Womens Day 2020

March 8th is the day of women's struggle and sacrifices to achieve equality and justice between men and women. On this day, we declare that defending the legitimate rights of women and incorporating them into law is one of our main tasks. We in the Kurdistan Parliament believe in humanist principles and oppose any kind of violence against women.

Kurdistan Parliament's Health Committee looked at Erbil Airport's measures against Coronavirus. The Culture Committee is working on an Electronic Media Bill. Other committees planned their work and meetings for the new spring legislative session.

The Women's Rights Committee and the High Council of Women's Affairs agreed on close coordination; the Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Area discussed requests from the Kurdish political parties' branches in Kirkuk; the Peshmerga Committee planned their work for the new spring session. 

Parliament delegation visits Bardarash camp for Syrian Kurdish refugees

A delegation of Kurdistan Parliament MPs on 27 February visited Bardarash camp for Syrian Kurdish refugees. They met with camp officials to discuss the living conditions and the problems faced by the refugees.

In recent meetings Parliament' committees discussed the government's measures against the novel Corona Virus; the ant oil-smuggling bill; an electronic media bill; tax law and its implementation, amending the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and the repatriation of Anfal victims' remains from southern Iraq mass graves.

Committee on Protection of Women's Rights holds Women's Support Network meeting

Kurdistan Parliament’s Committee on Protection of Women’s Rights on 25 February held a meeting with NGOs, the UNFPA, consuls and KRG officials on amending the domestic violence law and other areas of cooperation.

After ISIS's recent killings of civilians near Kirkuk, Kurdistan Parliament's committee calls for Peshmerga forces to return to the area and fill the security vacuum. The Integrity Committee in looking into corruption cases in Ranya and Slemani that are being investigated by the Integrity Commission.
