Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee discusses creating a Kurdistan-UK parliament friendship group, and Iraqi passport renewal problems

The Committee’s chair, vice chair, rapporteur and MPs held their regular meeting on 18 September. They discussed the meeting of Parliament’s presidency with the chairs of the Kurdistani blocs in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, in which the Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee also participated.

Summary of Committees’ meetings – 17 September 2019

In recent meetings, Parliament's committees met with citizens of Makhmour, the Kurdish district outside the KRG administrative area, who asked for the reopening of their Education College and also to study degrees at Kurdistan Region's public universities under the parallel system in which they pay fees. A delegation of writers and artists asked the Culture committee to help secure the release of Dr. Farhad Pirbal, who is accused of arson against a library.  

 

Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with heads of standing committees

Deputy Speaker, Heman Hawrami on 15 September chaired a meeting of the heads of the Parliamentary standing committees. The Deputy Speaker briefed them on Kurdistan Parliament’s meeting in Baghdad with the Second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives (ICOR), Dr. Bashir Haddad, and ICOR MPs in the Kurdistani parliamentary blocs, which was held to strengthen bilateral parliament relations.

Peshmerga Ministry's health committee and MPs discuss help for injured and disabled Peshmerga soldiers

Parliament's Peshmerga Committee together with the Health Committee had a meeting with the Peshmerga Ministry's health committee.

Kurdistan Parliament MPs and senior KRG officials discuss KRG's plan to participate in preparing Iraq's 2020 budget

Kurdistan Parliament MPs on 12 September were briefed by senior KRG officials on the KRG's plan to participate in preparing a draft of Iraq’s 2020 federal budget with Iraq's Ministry of Finance. They also discussed other critical issues for the Kurdistan Region. The meeting was chaired by Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami.

Summary of Committees’ recent meetings – 13 September 2019

In recent meetings Parliament's committees discussed pollution from oil refineries, bringing the 70th and 80th Peshmerga brigades under the Ministry of Peshmerga, and summoning the KRG Minister of Municipalities to question them about the household water meter complaints and problems. 

Summary of Committees’ recent meetings – 10 September 2019

Parliament's committees in recent meetings have asked the President of Kurdistan Region to bring a case to the Federal Court against the Iraq Financial Management bill which violates Kurdistan Region's constitutional rights. They also met Interior Ministry employees who ask for their salaries to be the same as their Iraqi counterparts; met the Kurdistan Olympic Committee who asked for legislation; and decided to prepare a report about the Haj pilgrimage administrative process.

Committee on Kurdistani Areas and specialist lawyer discuss challenging Iraq’s provincial councils law

The Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area met with Mr. Sardar Sabah Harki, a lawyer and expert in constitutional issues. The committee members on 4 September discussed with Mr. Harki how to challenge the Iraqi Provincial Election law at the Iraqi Federal Court.

Parliament’s Energy Committee heads meet US Consulate officials

The chair, vice chair and rapporteur of Kurdistan Parliament’s Energy, Natural Resources, Commerce and Industry Committee on 4 September welcomed officials from the US Consulate in Erbil: Mr. Andrew Lentz, the Head of Political Affairs; and Dr. Marisa Smip, the Head of Economic Affairs.
