Committee on Social Affairs, Protection of Women’s Rights and Human Rights visit Slemani

The committee members in Slemani visited departments that oversee social care and combating violence against women. They met with people with disabilities, an autism centre and with prisoners to learn more about their needs and problems and how to improve social services.

The Kurdistan Parliament delegation in Baghdad headed by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 3 September met with the Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi.

Deputy Speaker and cross-party group of MPs visit Baghdad for talks with Iraqi Parliament’s Kurdish blocs and Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 3 September led a Kurdistan Parliament delegation to Baghdad. Mr. Hawrami and the cross-party group of MPs will meet Kurdistani parties in the Iraqi Council of Representatives to strengthen their coordination on Iraqi legislation that affects Kurdistan. They are also taking part in a meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly's budget and planning committee.

Committees' recent meetings - 2 September 2019

This week Parliament's committees discussed a bill on scrutinizing, organizing and regulating advertising; decided to visit the Kurdistan Olympics Committee to learn about their problems; discussed shortcomings in the tourism sector and historic sites; and met victims and affected citizens from the district of Tuz Khurmatu, which is outside the KRG administrative area.

Kurdistan Parliament's committees this week decided to work on Iraq's law on narcotics and on problems faced by court petitioners; to summon the KRG Minister of Municipalities and other relevant parties to Parliament about the household water meter problems; and to try to get private institutes' and universities' student fees reduced.

Former political prisoners submit their demands to Parliament’s committee

27 August - MPs in the Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee met representatives of a group of former political prisoners asking for more financial compensation, after they demonstrated in front of the Parliament building.

Committees' recent meetings - 27 August 2019

On 27 August the Health Committee decided that they will visit the Director of Food Standards; and the Martys and Anfal Affairs Committee is looking into the failure to compensate Kurdistan's victims of the war against ISIS, even though Iraq's 2019 budget law fixed Kurdistan's allocation under Paragraph B, Point 3.

Kurdistan Parliament's committees this week went to camps in Duhok for Shingal IDPs to learn about their living conditions, problems and needs; and met with the Head of the KRG Board of Audit to prepare a report on the board's performance.
