Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 26 August held a meeting with the Parliament’s standing committees to discuss their work and preparations for the autumn session. She said that Parliament’s legislative policy should be consistent with the government’s programme of reform and better services for the people of Kurdistan.

Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 21 August held a meeting with the Legislative Committee to discuss 11 bills (draft laws) that were scheduled for their first reading in the autumn session.

This week Parliament’s committees worked on bills on advertising and on illegally taken land in municipalities, and amendments to the anti-narcotics and traffic laws. They discussed how IDPs can vote in Iraq’s provincial councils elections, and met Kurdish film director Jano Rosebiani who says Kurdistan needs a cinema and film-making centre.
Legal Affairs Committee looks at bills to discuss with Kurdistan Regional Government
Kurdistan Parliament’s Legislative Affairs Committee on 4th August met to discuss legislative proposals that have been submitted recently to the Kurdistan Parliament. The committee discussed 28 bills (proposals for draft laws) and decided to work on 14 of them for first readings at Parliament’s next legislative session, the autumn session

The Culture, Civil Society and Youth Committee decides to hold a conference to discuss a bill on advertising, and hope to have the bill's first reading in the autumn session. The Pharmaceuticals Subcommittee met the Pharmacists Syndicate, discussed measures to improve medicines quality control and making amendments to Iraqi Law No. 40 of 1970.
Kurdistan Parliament's orders and resolutions in July 2019
The Kurdistan Parliament publishes online recent orders and resolutions that were issued in the month of July. They are resolutions or orders on the election of Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq Hussein; Parliament’s majority vote of confidence in the ninth KRG cabinet Prime Minister and ministers; the election of Reving Heruri as new chair of a committee; and the automatic relinquishment of Parliament membership for MPs that were appointed as ministers.

Parliament's Education Committee will look at the Education Ministry’s recent decision to no longer grant permission for opening private schools and institutions. They will study the benefits and disadvantages of the decision. The Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee visited Mir Hazim Tahsin Beg to congratulate him on his recent selection as the new Prince of the Yazidis.
Parliament committees and KRG ministers discuss draft resolution on designating 3rd August Yazidi Genocide remembrance day
Parliament’s Legislative and Martyrs’ Affairs Committees met with Minister Vala Fareed and Minister Abdullah Haj Mahmoud to discuss in detail the draft resolution on designating 3rd August as the annual day of remembrance of the Yazidi Genocide. MPs will vote on the draft resolution in a future Parliament sitting.
Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee meets Head of Environment Protection Authority
The Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee on 27th July met the Head of the KRG Environmental Protection and Improvement Authority, Dr. Hallo Askari, and discussed coordinating their work to protect Kurdistan's environment.

The Health Committee met new Health Minister Dr. Saman Barzinji, and both agreed to work together to reform and improve healthcare. The Culture, Civil Society and Youth Committee met the Reform Institute for Development, a civil society organisation, which asked the committee to organize an annual meeting with civil society groups.
