Deputy Speaker Hawrami chairs workshop on Kurdish Diaspora Bill

The Kurdistan Parliament’s Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee on 17 November organized a workshop chaired by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami to brainstorm on a Kurdish Diaspora bill.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami welcomes India’s Consul General Chandramouli Kumar

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 14 November welcomed India’s Consul General Chandramouli Kumar and his colleagues. Mr. Kumar briefed Mr. Hawrami on the forthcoming celebrations for India’s 70th Constitution Day. They also discussed the plans to draft a Kurdistan Constitution, and strengthening inter-parliamentary relations.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets with Netherlands Consul General Willem Cosijn

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 14 November welcomed the Netherlands’ Consul General Willem Cosijn and his colleagues. They discussed the Parliament’s and KRG’s priority of carrying out reforms in many areas, including reform of the Peshmerga. They also discussed Holland’s support for strengthening Kurdistan’s agricultural sector, and developing relations with the Dutch Parliament.

Kurdistan Parliament commends Iraq supreme court ruling on violations in Iraq Provincial Election Law

Speaker Rewas Faiq on 13 November chaired a sitting of the Kurdistan Parliament at which four bills had their first readings, and MPs voted on the redistribution of committee memberships, following the creation of four new committees. Jiwan Rojbayani (KDP) discussed the successful court case overturning amendments to the Iraqi Provincial Elections Law and the danger of amendments to Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution. Karwan Gazneyi (PUK) discussed smuggling of oil and oil products, and called for transparency in oil revenue and the Erbil-Baghdad disagreements on it.

The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament announces the order of business for the sitting of Wednesday 13th November at 11am - the seventh sitting of the autumn session of the first year of the Kurdistan Parliament’s fifth term:

Deputy Speaker Hawrami and head of blocs hold meeting on new committees

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 10 November chaired a meeting of the heads of the parliamentary blocks to discuss the permanent committees and the distribution of MPs in the committees. The number of committees has been increased from 16 to 19, so membership of the committees needs to be decided and rearranged.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and MPs participate in celebration of Mawlood, the Prophet’s birthday

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and MPs of the Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee on 9 November participated in the Mawlood celebrations, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Deputy Speaker and MPs attended the celebrations in Sawaf Mosque in Erbil, with KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and many cabinet ministers and government officials.

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 7 November met with the Institute for International Law and Human Rights, a legislation capacity-building consultancy based in the US.

Speaker Rewas Faiq holds meeting with Kurdistan Region President and Prime Minister on current situation in Iraq

To discuss the current uncertain political situation in Iraq and in the Middle East and its impact on the Kurdistan Region, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on 5 November chaired a meeting of the three presidencies of the Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Secretary Muna Kahveci and several other officials participated in the meeting.
