On the occasion of the Eid of Ramadan, which this year coincides with the 27th anniversary of the Kurdistan Parliament’s first sitting on 4th June 1992, the Presidency of Parliament send our best wishes to Muslims in Kurdistan, Iraq and around the world. We hope that this Eid brings joy to all.

31st May 2019 - The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament condemns the explosions in Kirkuk carried out on the night of 30th May, calls for all the ethnicities of Kirkuk to be included in the security of the city, and calls for coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi Army. The Presidency issued the following statement:

28th May 2019 – Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Fareed today met Ambassador Ramon Blecua, the European Union Delegation’s Ambassador in Iraq. They discussed the latest political developments and strengthening the existing programmes between the EU and the Kurdistan Region. Ambassador Ramon Blecua said, “This is a critical moment now because of the current political tensions in the Middle East. Securing the government formation process in Kurdistan is important to stabilizing political life in the wider region.”

25th May 2019 - On International Missing Children's Day, the Kurdistan Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Committee Head Ms. Sawsan Mir Khan met representatives of families whose children went missing in the aftermath of the 1988 chemical bombardment of Halabja.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami today met Ms. Pegatha Taylor, Deputy Director of the Iraq Desk of Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Hawrami said that good governance and security measures are needed to prevent the reemergence of ISIS, and that the root causes of disenfranchisement must be addressed. 

Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami today met Mr Ahmed Aldhaheri, the United Arab Emirates’ Consul General to the Kurdistan Region. They discussed the latest political developments and the government formation process.

Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 21^st May welcomed Mr. Efthymios Costopoulos, Greece’s first ever Consul General to the Kurdistan Region. They discussed the latest political developments and the government formation process.

Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 20^th May met Mr. Steven Fagin, the US Consul General to the Kurdistan Region to discuss the latest political developments and the government formation process.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami yesterday welcomed the Russian Federation’s new Consul General, Mr. Oleg Levin. Kurdistan has a special historic friendship with Russia. They discussed strengthening ties with Russia's parliament, and Russia’s hope to increase economic, cultural and educational relations with the Kurdistan Region. 

Parliament's Presidency on 19th May met Mr. Siraj Barzani, the Head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency. Mr. Barzani submitted a request to the Presidency to give equal rights to Kurdistan’s mine clearance personnel through legislation.
