The Kurdistan Parliament on 2 September held a sitting for readings of bills, presided over by the Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq, including the first reading of the Bill on Amendments to Law on the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Kurdistan Region – Iraq.

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 1 September at the opening of the autumn 2021 session of Parliament, in her speech called for Kurdistan’s political parties to unite ahead of the Iraqi election, to protect Kurdistan’s political status. The head of each parliamentary bloc set out their party's priorities.

Kurdistan Parliament’s Relations Committee on 6 June held a symposium on the Challenges and Prospects for Kurdistan Region, with panels on the US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue, security threats after the war against ISIS, anticipated changes after the next Iraqi election, the Reform process and the impact of political disunity on Kurdistan Region’s position and status.

6 June 2021 - At a symposium organized by Parliament's Relations Committee on the Challenges and Prospects for Kurdistan Region, Speaker Rewaz Faiq said that Parliament has asked the UN General Representation in Kurdistan to help end military incursions in the border areas and take the conflict out of Kurdistan Region.   

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 12 April chaired a meeting with the KRG’s negotiating team with Baghdad, led by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, about the Iraq 2021 budget law and Kurdistan Region’s own budget bill.

Kurdistan Parliament on 31 March passed the Law on Protection of Local Products with 73 votes, held first readings of the Bill on the Electricity Ministry and the Second Amendments to the Law on the General Integrity Commission, and completed the second reading of the Bill on Conservation of Water Networks. MPs voted to exclude MP Dr. Kazim Faruq (New Generation) from sittings until he apologizes for disrespecting Parliament.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 29 March held an exhibition of photographs of the late Dr. Rozh Nuri Shawes, the former speaker of Parliament who passed away in February.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 27 October sat for first readings of two bills on water, and MPs in the opposition further questioned in absentia the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister on cuts to government employees’ salaries. The opposition MPs’ bid to move to a motion of no confidence was rejected, with 81 of 91 present MPs voting that they were convinced by the Government’s answers and to end the questioning.

Kurdistan Parliament MPs on 5 October questioned Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab in a lengthy sitting on the state of the region and the government’s policies. The KRG premier and his colleagues presented to MPs on the state of the economy, reforms, negotiations with Baghdad, combating the Coronavirus pandemic, and the situation in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area. Mr. Barzani said that soon the Council of Ministers will give Parliament a detailed report on the progress made in implementing the Reform Law.

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewaz Faiq had separate meetings with the governors of Erbil and Slemani on 31 March and 1 April respectively, on the impact of the Coronavirus and the ongoing protective measures.
