Speaker Faiq conveys condolences on passing of Abdul Hamid Darwish, veteran politician from Rojava

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewas Faiq expressed her condolences on the passing of the veteran Kurdish politician, Abdul Hamid Darwish. Her condolence message is as follows.

MPs debate bill on ownership of illegally used land in municipalities, have first readings of six other bills

At a Parliament sitting on 23 October chaired by Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, MPs debated at length the articles of a bill (draft law) on ownership of lands that have been illegally used or taken in the municipalities of the Kurdistan Region. The purpose of the bill is to allow people who have illegally used and/or built on land in municipalities to buy it from the government and officially register it in their names, within a deadline. Six other bills had their first readings.

Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Culture Committee express condolences on death of poet Muhammad Omar Usman

The Kurdistan Parliament's Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and the Culture Committee expressed their condolences on the death of the poet, Muhammad Omar Usman, known as the 'Autumn General'. Their condolence messages of 23 October are as follows.

Parliament’s Presidency and Legislative Committee meet with Kurdistan Region Consultative Council

Parliament's Presidency, the Legislative Committee and the Shura Council agreed on the need for cooperation. Parliament’s Presidency asked the Shura Council to coordinate with the Kurdistan Parliament in general and the Legal Affairs Committee, in particular to address the challenges related to amending legislation.

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr Rewas Faiq on 21 October visited the Hawary Nishtiman (Nation’s Call) campaign in Erbil, which has been organized by civil society associations to raise donations for the refugees of Rojava, Western Kurdistan.

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 21 October met with the Kurdish Academy to congratulate their newly elected presidency board in Erbil. Speaker Faiq expressed her support for the Kurdish Academy’s new board, saying that the organization is an important centre for research on the Kurdish language and Parliament will do all it can to support it.

Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq speaks at conference on quota systems in Iraq

Speaker Faiq said that the conference was a good opportunity to talk about Kurdistan's experience of the women’s quota system and how to make it a success. She said that after 2003, the system had a very positive impact on the political situation in all of Iraq.

EU Ambassador to Iraq: We are ready to build ties between European Parliament and Kurdistan Parliament

Kurdistan Parliament’s Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 16 October welcomed the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Martin Huth. 

The Speaker briefed Ambassador Huth on the parties in Kurdistan Parliament, saying that the Kurdistani people first voted for the Kurdistan Parliament in 1992 in Iraq’s first ever free and fair election, and the Parliament was later officially recognized by the Iraqi Constitution in 2005 and became one of the constitutional institutions in the Kurdistan Region.

Speaker Rewas Faiq and North Rhine-Westphalia Deputy Prime Minister Joachim Stamp discuss Rojava and situation of IDPs and refugees

Speaker Faiq briefed Deputy Prime Minister Stamp of North Rhine-Westphalia on the current situation in Rojava and the war that has killed civilians and forced many thousands of them to flee. She said that in recent days, some of them have reached the Kurdistan Region and are now settled in camps as refugees. The risk that thousands of ISIS prisoners escaping from Rojava prisons remains a major threat to Kurdistan's borders, Dr. Faiq said.
