KRG negotiating team to explain to Parliament outcome of latest talks with Iraqi Federal Government

On Monday 28 December, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s team for negotiations with the Iraqi Federal Government will explain the outcome of their latest talks with Baghdad to the Kurdistan Parliament. Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and the other KRG officials will meet with Parliament’s Presidency, heads of the parliamentary parties and three parliament committees at 11am.

Secretary Kahveci welcomes German military delegation in Iraq

Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci on 8 December welcomed Christof Neumann, adviser to the German forces' command in Iraq. They discussed the status and rights of the ethnic and religious communities in Kurdistan Region.

Parliament holds first reading of bills on education and private universities; discusses salaries problem

Parliament on 30 November held the first readings of the Bill on Education and Study, and of the first amendments to the Law on Private Universities. MPs called for discussion about the public salaries crisis, and the majority voted to hold a separate sitting on the issue in the presence of the KRG’s negotiating team for the outstanding issues with Baghdad.

Parliament holds second reading of Bill on Sale and Lease of Public Assets

Kurdistan Parliament held the second reading of the Bill on Sale and Lease of Public Assets in Kurdistan Region. The Presidency decided to close an ad hoc committee's investigation into an MPs' allegation of threats, due to lack of evidence. Speaker Faiq called for amendments to address shortcomings in the Law on Combating Violence Against Women, and commended campaigners for their bravery and perseverance on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami welcomes delegation from North Kurdistan

Deputy Speaker Hawrami told the delegation that Kurdistan Region’s political leadership has banned intra-Kurdish armed conflict, but no force should abuse this principle for its own ends by constantly attacking Kurdistan Region's institutions and entities, because each part of Kurdistan is distinct.
