The nomination of the next Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq, as per amended Law No. 1 of 1992, Article 56, paragraph 3 (the Kurdistan Parliament Elections Law).

6th June 2019 – The Kurdistan Parliament today held the inauguration of the new President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Idris Mustafa Barzani. Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Fareed presided at the historic ceremony where President Barzani took his oath of office before MPs and hundreds of dignitaries and guests.

28th May 2019 - Today Kurdistan Parliament's MPs elected Nechirvan Idris Mustafa Barzani to the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region. Of the 81 MPs present at today's sitting, 68 MPs voted for him to become the next President of the Region.

Parliament's Presidency announces closure of applications for Kurdistan Region President candidates
Today, 15th May 2019, at 11 am the Kurdistan Parliament's Presidency officially announced the closure of applications for those wishing to be a candidate for the post of Kurdistan Region President.
Parliament passes law to reactivate Kurdistan Region's presidency, opens applications for candidates
The Kurdistan Parliament on Wednesday 8th May passed by a large majority a law to restore the powers and functions of the President of the Kurdistan Region, and to amend the election system for the presidency until a Kurdistan Constitution is enacted in the future. On 12th May, Parliament announced that it will accept applications for candidacy, until 11am on 15th May.
Vote on Kurdistan Region Presidency Bill scheduled for 8th May, 11 am
6th May 2019 - The Kurdistan Parliament's presidency has scheduled for Wednesday 8th May at 11am the third reading and vote on the bill to restore the Kurdistan Region President's powers, and to temporarily change the presidential election method to a parliamentary vote, until a Kurdistan Constitution is enacted.

4 April 2019 - The Kurdistan Parliament yesterday debated for four hours at the second reading of a bill to restore the functions of the President of the Kurdistan Region; and to amend the election system for the presidency from public election to parliamentary vote, until a Kurdistan Region constitution is enacted in the future.
