Parliament’s Committee for Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area discuss Constitution Article 140

24 April 2019 - The Kurdistan Parliament’s Committee for Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area today met with Mr Adnan Mansoor, Director of Khanaqin’s Office for Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution. 

The MPs discussed how to overcome the obstacles to implementing Article 140.  The Article sets out a resolution process for areas, such as Kirkuk, Sinjar and Khaneqin, where previous Iraqi regimes deliberately changed the demography through deportations, expulsions and identity card changes. Article 140 has not been implemented, 14 years after the Iraqi Constitution came into force.

The meeting was chaired by Jiwan Yunis MP, the Head of the Committee.
