Speaker Dr. Vala Farid meets Canada’s Institute on Governance

Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Farid on April 11 met a delegation from Canada's Institute on Governance, led by Ms. Madeleine Meilleur. They discussed increasing women's participation in institutions.

Ms. Meilleur, Senior Advisor at the institute, congratulated Dr. Farid on her election to Speaker, and said she hopes that Iraqi and Kurdistani women will have more opportunities for senior positions in all fields.

The Speaker thanked the delegation for their work to empower women in government institutions and other organisations in the Kurdistan Region, through training courses and conferences on governance, peace-building and gender-sensitive policy making.

Dr. Farid informed the delegation about the KRG cabinet's formation and the legislative process to reactivate the functions and powers of the Kurdistan Region’s president. She said that MPs will vote on the bill in the coming weeks.
