Speaker Dr. Vala Farid participates in first civic dialogue conference in Erbil

11th April - 2019 - Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Farid, yesterday along with Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci and leader of the KDP parliamentary block Omed Khoshnaw, participated in the first conference of civic dialogue in Erbil.

Dr. Farid said that peaceful coexistence in any society relies on recognising the rights of every person. She added that freedom and justice are vital for achieving social justice and peaceful coexistence.

The Speaker described the Kurdistan Parliament’s key role in promoting peaceful coexistence by enacting laws to achieve justice in the Region. She pointed to some laws that promote peaceful coexistence including Law No. (1) of 1992 which reserves parliamentary seats for  Kurdistan’s diverse ethnic and religious communities in general elections, and describes their electoral rights; and Law No. (5) of 2015, which guarantees the rights of ethnic and religious communities in the executive authority of the Kurdistan Region.
