Summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees’ recent meetings and activities:
Committee on Kurdistani areas outside the KRG Administrative Area go to camps for Shingal IDPs in Duhok
26 August 2019 – Members of Parliament’s Committee Kurdistani areas outside the KRG Administrative Area went to the camps in Duhok for IDPs from the district of Shingal and discussed with officials the problems that the IDPs face. The MPs said that the situation in Shingal and the rest of Ninevah must be normalised and so that IDPs can return to their homes. They also discussed the importance of implementing Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution to resolve the status of the disputed terroritories.
The Committee spoke with IDPs in the Shariya and Kabarto camps in Duhok and Cham Meshko camp in Zakho district and met officials to learn about the IDPs’ health, education and shelter needs. The MPs decided to give a report about the IDPs’ living conditions and needs to Parliament’s Presidency.
Finance and Economic Affairs Committee meets Head of KRG Board of Audit Mr. Hadi Chawshly
26 August - Ahead of preparing a report on the performance of the KRG Board of Audit, Parliament’s Finance and Economic Affairs Committee met with the Head of the board, Mr. Hadi Chawshly to discussed the board’s work. Mr. Chawshly said that the board’s final report for 2016 to 2017 will be submitted to Parliament early next month.
MPs said that they supported the KRG Board of Audit’s responsibilities and hoped that it can strengthen its role in the fight against corruption and carrying out reforms in the Kurdistan Region. The committee decided to hold a special meeting to prepare a report on the performance of the board.
