Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq and Iraqi Parliament’s Second Deputy Speaker Dr. Bashir Khalil Haddad discuss inter-parliamentary relations

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament Dr. Rewas Faiq Hussein on 31st July welcomed Dr. Basheer Khalil Haddad, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. Mrs. Muna Kahveci, Secretary of the Kurdistan Parliament, also met Dr. Haddad.

Speaker Faiq said, “The Kurdistan Parliament closely observes Iraqi bills and legislation that directly relate to Kurdistan Region and wants the wishes and needs of Kurdistan Region to be considered.”

Regarding the current political situation, the Speaker said, “The majority in the Kurdistan Parliament supports the Kurdistan Regional Government’s agenda, particularly anti-corruption measures and the reform process and Parliament will support these measures through legislation. We simultaneously scrutinize the KRG’s policy implementation, and work to ensure that the government delivers services to the people of Kurdistan.”

Dr. Haddad said that strong relations and coordination between their respective parliaments is very important, particularly when the Iraqi Parliament debates and passes laws and resolutions related to Kurdistan Region. On behalf of the Presidency of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Haddad congratulated Dr. Faiq on her recent election as Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament.
