Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside KRG Administrative Area meet Minister Khalid Shwani

10 December - The committee, led by the chair Ms. Jiwan Rojbayani (KDP), welcomed Mr. Khalid Shwani, Minister of the Region for Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area; and Dr. Abdulhakim Juzal, Head of the Board of Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area.

The MPs briefed Minister Shwani and Dr. Juzal on their meetings and field visits to understand the problems facing Kurds from the areas. 

Minister Shwani commended the committee on successfully challenging in the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court the provisions in the Iraq Provisional Election Law that violate the voting rights of IDPs, include IDPs from the disputed territories.

The Minister explained the practical measures to tackle the problems in the areas, and the KRG’s efforts to resolve them through dialogue with Baghdad.

The meeting also discussed Kurdish farmers being unable to farm their land in the disputed territories due to intimidation, arson of crops and other illegal actions; the increasing insecurity, the movements of ISIS, and the decline in the number of Kurds in the areas due to expulsions, intimidation and illegal occupation of their land.

The committee called for the problems to be resolved as soon as possible. At the end of the meeting, the committee held a press conference together with Minister Shwani and Dr. Juzal.
