Committees’ recent meetings – 1 December 2019
A summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees’ recent meetings and activities:
Integrity Committee
28 November - The committee led by the chair Ms. Shirin Amin (Change) met with the President of Duhuk University, Dr. Muslih Duhoki. They discussed the former head of Akre College of Education, who is believed to have misappropriated 261 million Iraqi dinars. Akre College of Education is affiliated to Duhok University. The case, which is ongoing, was raised to the committee weeks ago. The committee obtained the necessary information and decided to give a report on the issue to Parliament’s Presidency.
Energy, Natural Resources, Commerce and Industry Committee
26 November - The committee at their regular meeting discussed the Iraqi government’s allocation to families of kerosene for heaters. The Iraqi government has allocated 50 million litres of kerosene for the Kurdistan Region, whereas Kurdistan needs 258 million litres to meet the public’s needs. The Committee decided to submit an official letter through the Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament to ask the Kurdistan Regional Government to meet the Region's household kerosene needs.
The MPs also discussed the Bill (draft law) on Protection of Domestic Products in Kurdistan Region, and the KRG Ministry of Trade and Industry’s comments and feedback on the bill.
The meeting was led by the Chair Mr. Hama Ali Salih (Change) and attended by the vice-chair, rapporteur and members.
Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee
26 November - The Committee, led by the chair Mr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) held their regular meeting to discuss the results of a special workshop on drafting the Kurdish Diaspora Bill. MPs discussed and exchanged their views on the bill which aims to benefit the Kurdish community abroad.
The Committee decided to look in more detail at the problems faced by the Kurdish community abroad, in order to discuss them with international organizations, the EU and US.
