Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq meets Italy’s Ambassador and Consul General

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq on 16th July met Italy’s Ambassador to Iraq Bruno Pasquino and Ms. Serena Muroni, the Consul General to Kurdistan Region. Parliament Secretary Ms. Muna Kahveci also participated in the meeting.

The delegation congratulated Dr. Faiq on her election to the Speakership and said that the people expect better services from their institutions.

Dr. Faiq welcomed Ambassador Pasquino and Consul General Muroni and briefed them on Parliament’s role and responsibilities. She said, “In this term Parliament will support peaceful coexistence, will work in the spirit of partnership with all political parties and will monitor the Government.  In the past, there were lack of cooperation between Parliament and the Government; from now on we will work to have better scrutiny of how Government’s policies are implemented.”

The Speaker briefed the delegation on the agreement between the main political parties to form the 9th cabinet, relations between the KRG and the federal government, the situation in Kirkuk, and how to lead Kirkuk. Dr. Faiq said that Parliament can play a role in solving problems between the KRG and Baghdad, and the solutions should follow the constitution.

Dr. Faiq emphasized that the challenges to approving Iraq’s budget law must be looked at and addressed.
