Parliament Speaker Dr. Vala Fareed meets Assyrian Democratic Movement delegation

Today 2nd of June 2019, Dr. Fareed meets a delegation from the Assyrian Democratic Movement, led by Deputy Secretary Yaqub Gorgis.

Mr. Farid Yaqub Elia, Al-Rafidain Party MP, also participated in the meeting.

Speaker Fareed welcomed the delegation and said that the peaceful coexistence between the different ethnic and religious communities in Kurdistan Region is underwritten by legislation. She said, "The rights and privileges of all the diverse peoples of Kurdistan are protected by Law Number 5 of 2015 that was enacted by Parliament, and their rights have also been written into the draft of the Kurdistan Region constitution.”

Mr. Gorgis congratulated Dr. Fareed on her election to the Speakership, and said that he was happy that a woman took the leadership position. He described the good relations between the diverse communities in the Kurdistan Region and hoped to see the relations continue and improve. Mr. Gorgis expressed the Assyrian Democratic Movement’s support for this term of Parliament and for the new Kurdistan Regional Government.
