Deputy Speaker chairs meeting of committee heads to review last three months’ work

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 25th June chaired a meeting of the heads of Kurdistan Parliament’s standing committees to review their work over the last three months.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked the committees for their work which they carried out in line with Parliament’s Rules of Procedure (internal regulations).

He discussed the role of Parliament in scrutinizing the work of the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet, which will be formed in the coming days, and working in parallel with the KRG on amending legislation and examining bills. Committees will be responsible for scrutiny and approval of the budget, he said.

He added, "The committees’ roles and responsibilities are determined by Parliament’s Rules of Procedure. Committees can assign work to subcommittees, and carry out the most of the work of examining and redrafting bills submitted by the KRG or MPs, as the elected servants of the people of Kurdistan Region.”

The heads of the committees said that once the KRG cabinet is formed, in line with Parliament’s Rules of Procedure they will monitor the government’s policies and actions and will work on legislation that will sustainably benefit people’s lives.

Also participating in the meeting were Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci and Mr. Hiwa Nusreddin, the Chief Executive of the Parliament Office (Head of the Divan of Parliament).
