Parliament’s Agriculture & Irrigation Committee’s statement: On 22nd May we asked Iraqi Parliament to stop arson against Kurdish farmers

Kurdistan Parliament’s Agriculture and Irrigation Committee issues the following statement on the acts of arson against Kurdish farmers through setting fire to their grain and wheat corps in the border areas of Kirkuk governorate:

We, the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee of the Kurdistan Parliament, condemn in the strongest terms these tyrannical, malicious and destructive acts that have been perpetrated in Kirkuk, Dibaga, Makhmour and several other Kurdistani areas. We deeply regret that these Kurdistani areas are not under our authority, areas where farmers and labourers have seen almost an entire year of their hard work completely destroyed. We condemn these acts wherever they have been perpetrated in the Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan Regional Government administrative area.

Our Committee met with the Iraqi Parliament on 22nd May 2019 and asked it to put an immediate stop to these crimes against the Kurdish farmers, and we call on all the relevant authorities to take action to stop these destructive and despicable crimes.  We also call on the Kurdish leadership to start serious talks with the Iraqi federal authorities to solve the crisis in the Kurdistani areas outside the KRG administrative area, and to compensate victims of the arson, and of floods that affected farmers earlier this year. We additionally call on giving farmers in the Kurdistan Region the same financial rights as farmers in Iraq.
