Speaker of Parliament Dr. Vala Fareed attends ceremony: President Nechirvan Barzani tasks Prime Minister with forming cabinet within 30 days

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on 12th June 2019 formally tasked Prime Minister Masrour Barzani with forming the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet. The Speaker of Parliament Dr. Vala Fareed and the President of the Judicial Council Mr. Bangeen Qasm attended the ceremony. In accordance with the law, the Prime Minister has 30 days to form his ministerial cabinet.

A day earlier on 11th June, MPs approved the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) selection of Mr. Masrour Barzani as the new Prime Minister of the KRG, with 87 of 97 present MPs voting in favour of his appointment.

Under Law no. 1 of 1992, MPs designate the Prime Minister. As the winning party in the September 2018 general election, the KDP nominated Mr. Barzani for the post of Prime Minister. MPs of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Gorran (Change Movement), Sardam Coalition (Socialist Democratic Party), and Christian and Turkmen parties voted in favour of Mr. Barzani's nomination.
