Deputy Speaker Hawrami meets UAE Consul General to Kurdistan Region

Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami today met Mr Ahmed Aldhaheri, the United Arab Emirates’ Consul General to the Kurdistan Region. They discussed the latest political developments and the government formation process.

Mr. Hawrami briefed Mr Aldhaheri about parliament’s priorities in this fifth term which began in November 2018, among them passing a reform package and working on a Kurdistan Region constitution. They also discussed the process of parliament electing the next president of the Kurdistan Region, which is expected to take place soon, and thereafter the start of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet.

Mr Ahmed Aldhaheri said that the UAE hopes that the number of women in the UAE’s Federal National Council will increase. Mr Hawrami said that the Kurdistan Region does not take for granted the key role of women in all institutions. Women hold two of the Presidency positions in the Kurdistan Parliament. Parliament has 34 women MPs out of 111, which is guaranteed by a quota for women.
