Parliament statement on false news regarding Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci
The Kurdistan Parliament issues the following statement regarding fake and misleading news published on the PUKMEDIA website on 22nd May 2019, with the headline ‘Travel ban on Muna Kahveci':
The article claimed that Muna Kahveci, MP and Secretary of the Kurdistan Parliament, is banned from travelling to Turkey and that she is no longer a representative of the Turkmen. The Kurdistan Parliament declares that the news is fake and points out the following:
- Kahveci was a member of the Independence Referendum's High Committee, and the travel ban relates to the time of the Referendum.
- Kahveci was the candidate that the Turkmen parliamentary parties put forward to be their representative in Parliament’s presidency. In the election for Parliament’s presidency positions, she received 59 votes from MPs to become the Secretary.
- The Turkmen political parties continue to have good relations with Ms. Kahveci and consider her to be their representative in her post of Parliament Secretary.
