Statement on Attacks on Palkana Village: Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside KRG Administrative Area

The Parliament Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area has released the following statement on the recent actions in Palkana Village, Dibis district, Kirkuk governorate:

Following past events, a very damaging and undesirable situation has been created in the Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area, especially in the Governorate of Kirkuk, where there have been cases of people being subjected to illegal treatment that is against their established constitutional rights.

This latest abuse against the Kurdish population living in Palkana Village in Dibis is an act of Arabization. Yesterday’s actions run entirely counter to the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government. Fortunately, Kurdistan’s political leadership took immediate action to resolve the case and set free those who were captured by the militia.

The Committee condemns the militias’ cowardly actions and calls for a halt to the ethnic cleansing carried out in the area. We stress once again that the situation in the disputed territories must be normalized, under the protection of the Peshmerga forces and the official forces of the country.
