Committees' recent meetings - 12 November 2019

Finance and Economic Affairs Committee

11 November - The committee led by the chair Mr. Ziyad Jabbar (PUK) met with the Ministry of Finance and Economy’s Director General of the Diwan, Yasin Abdulwahid, and Director General of Customs, Samal Abbdulrahman.

The meeting focused on customs issues and how to facilitate trade and tourism. The meeting emphasized the importance of integrating border gate affairs. The KRG officials said that electronic systems would be put in place for their work in the near future. 

Integrity, Parliament Affairs and Complaints Committee

11 November - The committee led by the chair Ms. Shirin Amin (Change Movement) met with a delegation from the Financial Audit Office of the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The meeting was held to discuss the spending of $5 million US dollars allocated to Erbil as the capital of tourism in 2014. 

The ministry delegation briefed the MPs on how the special budget was spent for Erbil as the 2014 tourism capital selected by the Arab Council of Tourism. The committee noted that a great deal of money from the budget was wasted, and decided to follow up on the issue.

Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee

11 November - The committee led by the chair Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) held their regular meeting. The MPs discussed a special report on their findings at the Ministry of Interior and at Erbil International Airport.

The committee discussed holding a special workshop on a Kurdish Diaspora Bill, and the committee decided to hold it in Parliament on 17 November.

Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research Committee

11 November - The committee led by the chair Mr. Abdulsalam Dolamari (KDP) held their weekly meeting. They discussed all the notes and requests submitted to them and sent them to the relevant authorities. 

The Committee discussed the legislative proposal on the protection of teachers and educational supervisors in the Kurdistan Region, which was raised at a Parliament sitting on 23 October and submitted to the committee for work. The committee is preparing a report on the proposal.

The MPs decided to form a subcommittee to help resolve problems with in Dohuk governorate with Syriac-language education, the mother tongue of Christians in Kurdistan Region.
