Committees’ recent meetings – 27 November 2019

A summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees’ recent meetings and activities:

Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee 

26 November - The committee, led by the chair Hawraman Gacheney (KIG), convened their regular meeting. Some MPs were of the opinion that religious schools should fall under the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs rather than be administered in the same way as normal schools. The committee decided to go to Baghdad in the near future to establish greater coordination with their counterpart committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives. 

The committee decided to meet with all the general directorates of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious in all the provinces of Kurdistan Region to look into their work and problems.

Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee

26 November - The committee, led by the chair Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP), held their weekly meeting. They discussed and reviewed points raised at a special workshop on the Kurdish Diaspora Bill that was held in Parliament on 17 November. The committee decided to look closely into the problems and demands of Kurds living abroad to strengthen the Kurdish Diaspora Bill. 

Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee

26 November - The Committee, led by the chair Dr. Sabah Zebari (KDP), convened their regular meeting. At this meeting, all the notes, requests, and complaints submitted to the committee were reviewed and answered in detail. 

The meeting discussed the Kurdistan Pharmacists Union’s demand that a number of articles and provisions of the pharmacists law. To this end, the Committee decided to hold a joint meeting with the Ministry of Health and the Union of Pharmacists to examine the positive and negative aspects of amending the law. 

Integrity Committee

26 November - The committee, led by the vice chair Said Harki (KDP), held their weekly meeting. All the notes, requests, and complaints submitted to the Committee were reviewed and answered in detail. 

The committee decided to set up a subcommittee to meet with the leaders of Duhok University and look into the problems at the College of Education in Akre, which is affiliated with the university. The college had previously reported their problems to the committee. 

They also planned for the same subcommittee go on a fact-finding visit to the Board of Integrity’s investigating court in Duhok, Zakho, and Akre.
