Summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees' recent meetings and activities:

Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee

31 October – The committee issued a statement congratulating the people of Slemani city and governorate on receiving UNESCO’s official designation as a creative city in the field of literature.

The committee congratulated all the citizens of Slemani and particularly the city’s writers and intellectuals on receiving UNESCO’s official recognition for Slemani’s innovation in literature.

The committee also noted that in 2012 the Kurdistan Parliament officially recognised Slemani as Kurdistan Region’s capital of culture. They said that Parliament will continue to support the city’s cultural and artistic development.

On 30 October UNESCO added 66 cities as Creative Cities, with Slemani designated for its contribution in the field of literature. UNESCO calls the Creative Cities "laboratories of ideas and innovative practices". 

Integrity, Parliament Affairs and Complaints Committee

31 October - The committee led by the chair Ms. Shirin Amin (Change Movement) met with Dr. Mohammad Shukri, Chairman of the KRG Board of Investment. The committee submitted the public’s complaints about investment-related issues, and Ms. Amin said that the problems should be followed up closely. Dr. Shukri assured the committee that he will look into the complaints as soon as possible.

Finance and Economic Affairs Committee meet with British Consulate officials

31 October - The committee led by chair Ziyad Jabbar welcomed Mr. Veniti Anikat, the head of the British Consulate's political team in Erbil. The committee discussed how the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government should be resolved.

The MPs called on the British government to cooperate with the KRG to address the outstanding problems with the Iraqi government, in particular to protect the salaries of Kurdistan Region’s civil servants and government employees. The committee noted that Kurdistan Region’s discussions with the UK could be important in resolving outstanding issues, particularly in the area of Kurdistan's budget
