Summary of committees’ recent meetings and activities:
Integrity Committee meets with Ibrahim Khalil border’s customs and quality control officials
1 October - During a visit to the Ibrahim Khalil Customs border, the committee chair Shirin Amin (Gorran), vice chair Mr. Said Mustafa (KDP) and member Shno Ashqi (PUK) met with the director of Ibrahim Khalil customs, Mr. Hamid Ali Ibrahim, and the manager of the Standard Company for quality control services, Mr. Farsat Ali Muhammad. They discussed possible solutions to the problems that officials face in their work at the customs border. The MPs pledged to report the problems to Parliament’s Presidency.
Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee
1 October 1 - The committee chair and members welcomed the representatives of Kurdistan Martyrs’ Organization - Syria. The organization submitted their written demand that the families of Kurdish Syrian forces that were killed fighting alongside the Peshmerga forces in the war against ISIS, receive the same financial compensation and privileges.
Health, Environment and Consumer Rights Committee
1 October - The committee held their regular meeting to discuss the problems in Kurdistan’s health sector. The meeting discussed the notes, requests and reports submitted to the committee, and all of them were given detailed replies. The MPs discussed the results of their field visits to Erbil, Duhok and Koya and the problems in the health sector in these areas. The committee decided to report the problems to Parliament’s Presidency and to work on improving the control of medicine imports to Kurdistan Region.
Social Affairs, Protection of Women's Rights and Human Rights Committee
1 October - The committee welcomed central members of the workers of the Communist Party. They discussed the difficulties faced by both local and foreign workers and with social security, amending labour legislation to suit Kurdistan Region’s current situation, and the attempts to frustrate the work of the Labour ministry’s scrutiny and follow-up committees.
They also highlighted the problem of holding a conference and elections for the Kurdistan federation of labour syndicates. The committee members pledged to follow up on the demands of the workers of the Communist Party, and said that Parliament and their organization should continue to discuss and coordinate on the issues.
2 October - The committee’s Deputy Chair and MPs visited Koya District and discussed with the Mayor of Koya problems and solutions for infrastructure projects and public services. They also visited the Directorate of Security Services (Asayish) to follow up on several special cases.
The committee then met with the director and staff of the Directorate of Social Care and Development, to learn about care and support for the rights of people with disabilities in the area. They pledged to follow up on the problems and look into possible solutions.
