Kurdistan Parliament delegation in Seoul meets with Korea National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation led by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 2 October in Seoul met with Korea National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang and Korean MPs. The heads of the KDP and PUK blocks Mr. Omed Khoshnaw (KDP) and Mr. Jamal Haruty (PUK) were also at the meeting. The Kurdistan Parliament MPs are in Seoul to forge closer inter-parliamentary ties with the Korean National Assembly, and to learn from its legislative & oversight work.

On behalf of the people of Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan Parliament, Deputy Speaker Hawrami thanked Speaker Moon Hee-sang for Korea’s deployment of the Zaytun Division forces from 2004 to 2008. The hard work and support of Korea’s Zaytun Division troops in terms of reconstruction and local skills training at that time, paved the way for a partnership between Kurdistan Region and Korea, he said.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami asked Speaker Moon Hee-sang and Korean MPs to encourage the Korean Government to maintain and strengthen the good relationship with Kurdistan Region. He also asked the Korean National Assembly to encourage more trade and investment by Korea’s companies.

In a separate meeting, Mr. Hawrami, Mr. Khoshnaw and Mr. Haruty discussed with the Korean National Assembly developing closer ties between their MPs and capacity-building by learning from each other’s experience of drafting legislation and scrutinizing the government.
