A summary of Kurdistan Parliament committees' recent meetings and activities:
Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee
21 October - The committee led by chair Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) held their weekly meeting and discussed illegal travel out of the country via regional airports. The committee discussed a special report on a meeting with the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations. The committee formed a subcommittee to visit the KRG Interior Ministry to investigate the issue of illegal travel to foreign countries via Erbil and Slemani international airports.
22 October - The committee led by Dr. Rebwar Babkayi (KDP) visited KRG Ministry of Interior to discuss smuggling travelers through airports, and visa-free travel to Kurdistan. The committee members were welcomed by the Minister for the Interior. Reber Ahmad. The two sides emphasized the need to to share information and to resolve the problems through a favourable mechanism.
Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee
21 October - The committee led by chair Dr. Hawraman Gacheney (KIG) held their weekly meeting. The committee reviewed the proposal from the Kurdistan Union of Islamic Scholars to renovate religious schools in Kurdistan. All the committee members were of the same opinion that in the past Kurdish religious schools were part of Kurdish history and played an important role in educating and developing famous personalities and moderate people. All the committee members supported the project.
Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee
22 October - The committee led by chair Ms. Sawsan Muhammad Mirkhan (KDP) met the KRG Ministry of Finance and were welcomed by the Minister Awat Janab Nuri. They discussed the problems of students and families of martyrs and political prisoners. The committee stressed that tuition fees for children from families of martyrs and political prisoners should be paid as soon as possible. The committee decided to draft a report to brief the Kurdistan Parliament Presidency about their meeting with the Finance Ministry.
Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee
22 October - The committee led by chair Mr. Luqman Wardy (PUK) held their regular meeting. The MPs discussed the details of their report after their follow-up on the expenditure of 20 billion Iraqi Dinars allocated to Slemani Governorate.
MPs decided to direct their final report to Parliament’s Presidency. The committee also decided to form a committee to follow up on the expenditure of five million dollars allocated to Erbil Governorate in 2014.
The committee decided to visit Soran District to meet civil society organizations to identify their challenges.
Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee
21 October - The committee led by chair Mr. Abdusalam Dolamari (KDP) held their regular meeting. The MPs discussed their recent visit to the KRG ministries of education, and higher education and scientific research and emphasized the need for cooperation between the committee and both ministries to improve education standards in the Region. The meeting also discussed and answered all the notes and reports sent to the committee.
