Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami welcomes Kurdistan Islamic Union leadership members

Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 23 September welcomed the Head of the Kurdistan Islamic Union's (KIU) Political and Public Council, Mr. Khalil Ibrahim, and several members of the party’s leadership.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami outlined the current political and economic situation in the region, and bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Parliament and the Iraqi Council of Representatives (COR). He stressed the need for a united approach by the Kurdistani blocs in the COR, to ensure that Iraqi laws passed by the COR are in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution, and to block the passage of laws that violate the constitutional powers and rights of the Kurdistan Region.

Mr. Hawrami stated that Kurdistan Parliament's Presidency upholds fairness and equal treatment of all the parliamentary blocs, and that bills (draft laws) submitted to the Presidency are assessed according to Parliament’s Internal Rules of Procedure.

Mr. Khalil Ibrahim, the Head of the KIU's Political and Public Council, stressed the importance of drafting a Kurdistan constitution, carrying out reforms in Kurdistan, strengthening relations between the Kurdistani blocs in the Iraqi COR, and achieving national consensus on issues related to the future of Kurdistan Region.
