Kurdistan Parliament MPs take part in workshop on human rights
To build the Kurdistan Parliament’s capacity and support MPs in their work, on 23 September MPs participated in a workshop on human rights. The workshop was run by UNAMI’s Human Rights Office together with Parliament’s Research Centre.
Members of parliament’s committees that work on human rights, legislation, civil society and the interior were given an overview of the special processes, tribunals and treaties on human rights. The trainers from UNAMI’s Human Rights office also highlighted the founding principles of human rights.
The UNAMI trainers explained parliamentary principles, international protection of human rights, international treaties, human rights decision-making bodies, and the role of Kurdistan Parliament’s human rights and other committees in promoting the principles.
Mr. Fuad Ahmad, the head of Parliament’s research centre, stressed the importance of workshops to increase parliamentarians’ expertise which will strengthen their work of scrutiny, legislation and representation.
