Parliament’s Presidency reaches out to Christian and Turkmen parties to build national consensus on drafting a Kurdistan Constitution

The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament - Speaker Rewas Faiq, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami and Secretary Muna Kahveci - on 15 September visited several Christian and Turkmen political parties: National Union Coalition, Assyrian Syriac Chaldean Popular Council,(ASCPC), Assyrian Democratic Movement (Rafidain Party) and the Turkmen Reform Party.

In separate meetings with each party, Parliament’s Presidency asked them to help form a national coalition on drafting the Kurdistan Constitution, carrying out reforms in the KRG institutions, protecting the rights of all Kurdistan's communities including religious and ethnic minorities, and supporting the current Baghdad-Erbil negotiations to resolve outstanding disagreements.

The leaders of the parties gave their support to the Parliament Presidency’s efforts to build a national consensus on the important issues for Kurdistan. The meetings were with ASCPc Secretary Jamil Zaito; Deputy Secretary General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement Yacoub Gorgis, and Romeo Hakari, Head of the Assyrian Democratic Beit al-Nahrain Party and Kurdistan Parliament MP in the National Union Coalition, which is a coalition of three Christian parties.
