Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq and Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami welcome Mr. Mazhar Khaleqi, Kurdish singer and director of Kurdish Folklore Institute

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq and Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 3 September welcomed Mr. Mazhar Khaleqi, the famous singer and director of the Kurdish Folklore Institute, and Mr. Rafiq Salih, the head of Zheen Archive Centre.

Mr. Khaleqi and Mr. Salih congratulated Dr. Faiq on her election as Speaker. They briefed the Speaker about their work on Kurdish culture and folklore. They also suggested that the Kurdistan Parliament draft a bill to organize their cultural preservation activities.

Speaker Faiq thanked Mr. Khaleqi and Mr. Salih for their work on Kurdish cultural and artefacts. She said that the Kurdistan Parliament would support looking into draft legislation to protect Kurdish art and culture.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami also met with Mr. Khaleqi and Mr. Salih. He appreciated their activities that help to increase knowledge of Kurdish art. He added that the Kurdistan Parliament supports both organizations which are national and protect Kurdish culture and historic manuscripts and books.

Mr. Luqman Wardi (PUK), Chair of Parliament’s Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee, and committee member Mr. Peshawa Tahir (KDP) also participated in the meeting.
