Speaker Rewas Faiq and Kurdistan Social Democratic Party Secretary Hama Haji Mahmoud discuss legislative priorities

On 22 September Mr. Hama Haji Mahmoud, the Secretary of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party together with several members congratulated Dr. Rewas Faiq and Mr. Hemin Hawrami on their election to the Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament.

At their meeting in Parliament, Mr. Mahmoud wished Speaker Faiq and Deputy Speaker Hawrami success in their roles, and particularly in their goal of protecting the unity of Kurdistan’s political forces.

Dr. Faiq and Mr. Hawrami emphasized that they will work to maintain a national consensus in the Kurdistan Parliament.

Mr. Mahmoud discussed Parliament’s key role in making decisions that affect Kurdistan’s future, especially Kurdistan’s sovereignty and people’s daily lives and living standards.

Speaker Faiq said, “For now the Kurdistan Parliament will prioritise work on pivotal issues and on passing laws that are important at this stage and that serve the public's needs.”

Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that the reform agenda and Kurdistan Region’s share of Iraq’s 2020 general budget are priorities. He added that a Kurdistan constitution should be drafted that protects the rights of all the people of Kurdistan including the ethnic and religious components.
