Interior Committee discusses Coronavirus and security incidents

Members of Kurdistan Parliament’s Interior, Security and Local Councils Committee on 13 April held a meeting online. They discussed the Ministry of Interior’s Coronavirus containment policy, the lockdown measures and the role of security forces in enforcing them.

The MPs also discussed the death of a newborn baby, which has been blamed on local officials in Balisan sub-district closing a checkpoint and thereby forcing the pregnant mother to wait for three hours before being allowed to travel to Erbil Maternity Hospital. The committee decided to look further into the tragic incident.

Regarding the handing over of a Kurd from Iran, Mostafa Salimi, to Iranian forces and his subsequent execution, the committee decided to await the findings of the government-appointed committee, and also to look further into the case themselves.
