Kurdistan Parliament decides on work priorities, special committee to scrutinize Coronavirus measures and their impact
Kurdistan Parliament’s presidency and the heads of the parliamentary blocks held a special meeting on 4 April, as the nation tackles the Corona virus outbreak and its consequences. They decided to continue coordinating with the KRG on implementation of the Reform Law; to scrutinize border points, food and medicine imports; and to monitor the work of the special bodies tackling the Coronavirus outbreak. The following is a summary of their decisions.
- Parliament’s Presidency and the special committees for coordinating and following up with Kurdistan Regional Government officials on implementation of the Reform Law will continue with their responsibilities.
2. Establish a high-level parliamentary committee, chaired by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, made up of the heads of the Finance, Investment, Industry, Energy, and Legal Affairs committees, to scrutinize the control of border points and customs and imports of food and medicine.
3. Establish a high-level parliamentary committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker and comprising the Secretary of Parliament and all the chairs of the parliamentary committees, to scrutinize the work of the special bodies formed to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak and its consequences.
4. The Kurdistan Parliament supports a comprehensive agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Government, within the framework of protecting the interests of the Kurdistani people and their legal and constitutional rights.
The meeting was chaired by Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, and included Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, Secretary Muna Kahveci, and the heads of the parliamentary blocks (KDP, PUK, Gorran, New Generation, Kurdistan Islamic Group, Kurdistan Islamic Union, Social Democrats, Communist Party, and the Christian and Turkmen parties).
