Parliament honours victims of Qaladze bombardment of 1974
The Kurdistan Parliament on 24 April commemorated the 46th anniversary of the bombing of the town of Qaladze by the Iraqi Ba’ath regime in 1974.
Speaker Rewas Faiq noted that the bombing of Qaladze was not only a massacre but also an act to destroy human capital, by killing students and lecturers of Slemani University who were in the town at the time. Years later, on 24 April 1982, when the people of Qaladze gathered to commemorate their loss, two women were killed and many were arrested and injured.
Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami stated that the Ba’ath regime’s use of napalm to attack Slemani University, which had moved to the town of Qaladze, killed and injured hundreds of residents, students and lecturers.
The people of Pshder district, where the town of Qaladze is located, have participated in all of Kurdistan’s uprisings and revolutions and have been on the frontlines protecting our nation, Deputy Speaker Hawrami noted.
Parliament’s Martyrs Affairs Committee also conveyed their respect for the people of Qaladze for always being part of Kurdistan’s revolutions and for the sacrifices they have made.
