Speaker Rewas Faiq visits Halabja Governor and Garmian officials to discuss Coronavirus outbreak and measures

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq last week visited Halabja governorate authorities and the authorities in Garmian to discuss the measures against the Coronavirus outbreak. Parliament will formally consult with the Kurdistan Regional Government and governorates on help for people economically affected by the lockdown, the Speaker said.

Speaker Faiq, with the heads of the parliamentary blocs and the Chief of the Diwan, on 1 April met the Governor of Halabja Azad Tofiq Rahim, and on 2 April met with the Head of Garmian Administration Salah Kwekha, and their respective council leaders, members and staff.

Speaker Faiq thanked the authorities in Halabja and Garmian, the High Commission on the Coronavirus, doctors, nurses, and security forces who have worked tirelessly to protect the public’s health, reduce the spread of Coronavirus, and maintain security.

Speaker Faiq also thanked the public in Halabja, Garmian and particularly in Darbandikan, who have been largely adhering to the lockdown and earlier measures. She said that the lockdown should not be allowed to raise inflation in the market.

The officials agreed to consult formally with the government and the governorates on how to help people on low-incomes who cannot work because of the lockdown. Garmian administration officials called on the Kurdistan Regional Government to do more to help the public.

The Speaker stressed that the Kurdistan Parliament will take immediate legal steps to help those in need in these critical situations.
