Agriculture and Irrigation Committee in Baghdad ask Iraq’s Agriculture Minister to pay Kurdistan farmers’ financial rights

Members of Kurdistan Parliament’s Agriculture and Irrigation Committee, led by the chair Abdulsatar Majeed (KIG), on 9 December were in Baghdad to attempt to secure payments owed to Kurdistan's farmers by the Iraqi federal government, and met with the federal Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Karim Al-Khafaji.

The committee asked Minister Mohammad Karim Al-Khafaji to pay Kurdistan Region’s farmers for wheat that they transferred to the Iraqi government in 2014, 2015 and 2016. They also asked the minister to increase Iraq’s purchase of wheat from Kurdistan Region’s farmers and give them more support.

The delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with Iraq’s president and the Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives (Parliament) to try to resolve the problems.
