Joint committee looks into protests in Slemani Governorate

21 December - At the request of Kurdistan Parliament’s Presidency, a joint committee investigated the protests in Slemani, Halabja and the independent administrations of Garmian and Raparin.

The joint committee is made up of MPs from the Legislative Committee, Social Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Committee, and Interior, Security and Local Councils Committee.

The joint committee formed three subcommittees who, in Slemani, Halabja, and Garmian and Raparin administrations, met with the public, administrations, political parties, security departments, and the families of those killed in the demonstrations. They went to the sites of the demonstrations.

All of the requests and suggestions made to the MPs will be directed to Parliament’s Presidency in a detailed report. The joint committee members said that according to the law, individuals’ rights should be protected during civil demonstrations.
