Parliament delegation and Minister Aydin Maruf visit Akre to look into coexistence between communities

On 8 December a parliament delegation together with the KRG Minister of the Region for Minority Affairs Aydin Maruf, visited Akre to look into coexistence between all the ethnic and religious communities there, and met with the Mayor Mazen Muhammad Saeed.

The MPs in the delegation were Robina Oilmalek (National Union Coalition), Himdad Sabah (Turkmen Front), Farid Yaqub (Al-Rafidain) and Leili Abduljabar (KDP)

Mayor Mazen gave an overview of the lives and situation for all residents of the town Akre, including the minorities.

The delegation and the minister explained that they want to understand the residents’ problems and concerns.

They visited a Christian school in Akre and talked about the importance of protecting the culture of peaceful coexistence between all the communities in the region.

The delegation also visited the church in Akre and discussed the importance of enforcing Law No. 5 of 2015, the Law on the Protection of the Rights of the Components in Kurdistan Region. The MPs received several requests for assistance which they pledged to follow up and fulfill as much as possible.
